The Position:
This role is responsible to safely operate all sections of the plant to produce styrene that meets the internal manufacturing specifications.
What you will do:
- Perform repair, installation, troubleshooting, calibration, and field design on electrical and instrumentation systems (120/480V).
- Operate and monitor all sections of the EBSM plant to safely produce styrene per manufacturing specifications.
- Review and document work orders in SAP, complete permits and JSAs, and follow established safety and maintenance procedures.
- Secure equipment for maintenance, support return-to-service, and perform operator-assisted maintenance as needed.
- Conduct rounds, safety checks, line-ups, equipment start/stop, sampling, and housekeeping to maintain safe, efficient operations.
- Participate in incident reporting, investigations, Management of Change, PHA/LOPA reviews, and safety drills.
What you will bring:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Process Technology degree OR 5+ years’ experience as an operator in chemical, refining, or gas processing industries.
- Strong ability to meet deadlines, adapt in high-stress environments, and troubleshoot process problems.
- Comfortable with high workloads, complex calculations, and highly technical plant systems.
- Ability to use audio, visual, and sensory feedback (vibration, smell, color differentiation) to monitor equipment.
Additional Skills:
- Proficient in Excel, Word, and common computing software.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
- Skilled in reading schematics, one-line diagrams, ladder logic, loop drawings, PLC logic, and P&IDs.
- Knowledge of instruments (pressure, temperature, level, Coriolis meters), valves, transmitters, motors, lighting, and controls.
- Experienced with calibration software, computer-aided calibrators, and factory/functional acceptance testing.
- Ability to identify equipment issues, write/update operating procedures, and provide input for maintenance planning.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Safely work with hazardous/flammable chemicals and heavy equipment.
- Perform outdoor work year-round under various weather conditions.
- Stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs frequently.
- Work in confined spaces and at heights (climb ladders up to 200 ft; stairs up to 75 ft).
- Wear PPE including respirators, SCBA, goggles, and other protective equipment.
- Use a variety of hand tools and computer systems to support daily operations.

- Rotate through inside/outside operating systems as part of progression.
- Participate in continuous learning and skills development sessions.
- Support Emergency Response Team activities as required.
