Job Title: Process Control Engineer

Location: Wando, South Carolina 

The Position:

The Process Control Engineer provides technical support for the design, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of process control systems at the Ineos Cooper River site. The role provides guidance on instrumentation and control devices to maintain the plant in safe operating order. This role works closely with optimization engineering, project engineering, and operations to achieve the site’s regulatory, production, and efficiency goals.

What you will do:

• Design, implement, and optimize process control strategies within the Distributed Control System (DCS), including control loops, logic modifications, and HMI display enhancements.
• Identify and develop process and control system improvement opportunities that enhance safety, reliability, efficiency, and operational performance.
• Lead control system projects from concept development through implementation, including evaluating alternatives, defining benefits, and performing cost-benefit analyses.
• Support alarm management programs by maintaining the Alarm Response Manual, reducing alarm floods, and addressing nuisance alarms through alarm rationalization and optimization.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Reliability teams to improve plant performance, asset reliability, and process safety.
• Participate in and support Management of Change (MOC) processes, ensuring proper review, documentation, training, and implementation of control system modifications.
• Maintain and improve Operator Training Simulators (OTS) in partnership with Global Technology and Operations teams.
• Develop, update, and maintain process control documentation, including P&IDs, loop sheets, operating procedures, control narratives, and design standards.
• Create and revise startup, shutdown, and normal operating procedures for DCS operators and process control systems.
• Participate in process safety activities, including HAZOP studies, safety reviews, and risk assessments related to control system changes.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for Honeywell Experion PKS DCS hardware, software, networking, and related control system infrastructure.
• Deliver training and guidance to operations personnel on new control strategies, system enhancements, and process control technologies.

What you will bring:

• BS degree in a technical discipline (preferably Chemical or Electrical Engineering)
• 3-5 years in manufacturing
• Must have excellent communications skills in English

Desirable Criteria / Qualifications

• Understanding of Honeywell Experion PKS distributed control system including design and implementation of control modules, and high-level troubleshooting of system issues.
• Knowledge of analyzers, programmable logic controllers, safety instrumented systems, instrumentation and control valves is a plus.
• Understanding of DCS alarm rationalization and industry standards (eg. ISA-18.2, EEMUA 191)
• Previous chemical plant, refinery or related industry experience (PTA experience is a plus)
• Familiarity with cybersecurity from a user perspective, particularly in an Operation Technology (OT) network.
