Job Title: Technical Superintendent
Location: Wando, South Carolina
The Position:
The Technical Superintendent will provide leadership, coaching, resources, boundary conditions and motivation to help operating teams successfully accomplish performance contract targets and objectives. Supervises Optimization Engineers, Senior Process Engineers, and Laboratory personnel. Works with the Operations Manager to oversee daily plant operations and reports to the Operations Manager.
What you will do:
This position and all positions within the INEOS Aromatics organization require commitment to learning and following INEOS Aromatics principles, processes, behaviors, and Life-Saving Rules. Provides leadership and support to promote adherence to the 20 Principles for Managing Behavioral Safety and Process Safety and Life-Saving Rules. Leads by example through incident investigations, observations, and audits. Completes corrective actions arising from these activities.
What you will bring:
- Lead the development and maintenance of safe operating limits, design envelopes, and relief system designs to ensure safe and compliant plant operations.
- Review, audit, and approve Management of Change (MoC) activities and technical modifications prior to startup.
- Manage the day-to-day activities of the Optimization and Laboratory teams, ensuring alignment with business, operational, and performance objectives.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by challenging existing practices and identifying opportunities to enhance safety, compliance, customer service, and cost performance.
- Provide leadership and direction for process engineering resources supporting optimization, reliability, project execution, technical services, environmental compliance, and customer support.
- Oversee site reliability and availability reporting, ensuring process-related feed interruptions and non-prime production events are investigated and corrective actions implemented.
- Ensure contractor and service provider performance, including water treatment vendors, meets contractual and operational requirements.
- Serve as an ISO 9001 Internal Auditor and champion continuous improvement initiatives within the Site Quality Management System.
- Lead cost optimization efforts by managing variable cost reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cost curve analysis, optimization tools, and development of long-term cost reduction strategies in partnership with site leadership and operations teams.
Level of education & knowledge:
- 10-12+ years of progressive experience in a chemical manufacturing facility, refinery, or related process industry environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in process engineering, plant optimization, operational reliability, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to effectively collaborate across all levels of the organization.
